Course Overview :

On completion of this unit, the learner will have the knowledge and be equipped with the application skills to function as a member of an emergency response team in order to implement the emergency response skills during an emergency incident in buildings.

This includes:

  • Introduce or reinforce the relevant legislation surrounding the formations and activation of CERT
  • Familiarize participants with the various possible fire hazards and the usage of fire protection systems in buildings
  • Instruct participants on the proper donning and operating procedures of Breathing Apparatus (BA) sets
  • Familiarize the students with the appropriate techniques for use during fire-fighting in high-rise buildings and snatch rescue operations
  • Instruct participants on correct methods to conduct initial fire-fighting using various extinguishing mediums.

 

Who Should Attend : CERT members in Public and Industrial buildings with valid petroleum and flammable materials storage license (< 5 matrix tonnes).
Pre-Requisite :

Literacy and Numeracy

  • WSQ Employability Skills Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 4, or equivalent.

Working Experience

  • Recommended to have 1 year working experience in any industry.

Assumed Attitudes

  • Self-directed, with an open and analytical mind.
Course Outline :

The competency unit would be appropriate for those with operational responsibilities.

  • Interpret emergency response legislation and guidelines
  • Identify fire hazard scenarios and usage of fire protection system in buildings
  • Demonstrate use of breathing apparatus according to BA wearer guidelines and entrapment procedures
  • Assess the emergency situation and conduct firefighting to contain fire in high rise buildings
  • Participate in rescue and evacuation exercise
  • Handover incident and provide operational assistance to the appropriate body
